Where've We Been?
|
The COSL Microlibrary has been everywhere lately! Some recent schools include Millville Elementary, Nibley Elementary, Providence Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Thomas Edison Charter School, Edith Bowen Elementary, Park Elementary, Summit Elementary, and Lewiston Elementary School. A typical trip was the COSL Microlibrary visit to Mrs. Jensen's Fifth Grade classroom at Edith Bowen Laboratory School. Dave and Kurt presented about the history of writing, printing, and books with a special focus on the Gutenberg's role. Did you know that Gutenberg did not invent the printing press? Gutenberg's two main contributions to the world of printing were the invention of movable type and pioneering the use of metal for the type (wood had been popular before). Mrs. Jensen has 28 fifth graders in her class, and each and every one got a free book of there choosing from the COSL Microlibrary. Everybody had a great time! To date the COSL Microlibrary has given away books to approximately 850 kids in northern Utah. | ![]() |
